Door County Magazine
And that’s a very hard thing to do.
But you came through. (OK, full disclosure: We knew you would.)
After tallying the results, we learned a few things and saw a few newcomers on the “Best of” list. And we were happy to see the places that retained their crowns.
Voting for the very best of Door County is a big challenge.
It was brought to mind the other day, when I was at Peninsula State Park and ran into a couple feeding birds at the nature center. They hailed from Germany and were visiting Door County on vacation.
After chatting a while, I wanted to give them some “insider’s” tips on places to try and things to do.
But I was tongue tied. On one hand, I was prepared to launch into an epic speech, detailing all the prime places and activities I know and love. On the other hand...I didn’t even know where to start.
Realizing they only had a day or two to cover it, I pointed them in the direction of a few epic Door County highlights and a couple fun lesser-known joints.
That’s when I truly realized what a tough job it is to select a “favorite” in every category. To declare something to be the absolute best.
The truth is, we have a lot of great businesses and fabulous finds in Door County. So, being recognized as the Best of Door County is a real accomplishment. We congratulate this year’s winners and runners- up!
OK! The voting is behind us. Now, comes the next part of the challenge for our readers: Take this handy guide, go out and try it all. Try the winners and the runner ups—honestly, in many cases, the margins between the winners and the runner ups were very slim. Eat, shop, play and visit your way through this year’s contest.
The second part of the challenge is this—branch out and try completely new places and activities. There’s a lot waiting to be discovered and recognized. You might find a new favorite!
We’ll see you again in 2019. And we can’t wait to learn what you discover in the months to come!
